Someone Make It Stop: Rachel Maddow Sums Up Krugman

Sheldon Richman links to the below video, but advises his readers against watching it. But I must disagree; Rachel Maddow's commentary is beautiful in its clarity, its confidence, and its idiocy. It's about 8 minutes, and I know that sounds like a long time, but I urge you to just click the thing and watch it. You really need to hear the build-up, in order to see how she can so smugly utter the following climax as if it's self-evident: Maddow explicitly says that citizens should oppose tax cuts, as opposed to the spending components of the stimulus bill, because getting tax rebates would be wasting the taxpayers' money. Let me repeat: Maddow urges citizens to reject tax cuts in favor of politicians spending the money, on the grounds that this will prevent the waste of taxpayer funds.

Crazy, I know, but you really should watch the video to see why she is so sure she's right.

Comments:
I'm glad we have such wise people who understand "economic reality" in office to spend our money for us. Boy would we be "pucked" if we were actually allowed to save our money and pay down our debt.
< /sarcasm>

Translation: "You peons/taxpayers exist to serve us (the elites). Leave you to your own devices? Are you nuts?!?!"

Make it illegal to not "buy stuff". Make it illegal to fire anyone (without government approval). Or simply have government employ all the unemployed. Simple. Problem solved.

Amazing video. I don't think even Ayn Rand could have come up with such a brilliantly idiotic speech, say for an evil character in "Atlas Shrugged".

So, who is worse? The democrats or the republicans?

i honestly cannot watch this whole thing. i got 4 minutes in before my head came dangerously close to exploding. how dare you do that to me, mr. murphy?!?!

(Ahem). Europa Pacific Capital's John Browne writes, "Tilted heavily towards consumption, only 10 percent of the bill is allocated toward the infrastructure spending that the President talked about so frequently during the campaign."

Solari's founder Catherin Austin Fitts writes this about the Financial Stability Plan, but it should also be sent to Maddow: "

In response to a colleague that sent me Robert Reich’s editorial on the plan, I responded:

Ah, yes! Americans need more debt. We do not need the law. We do not need honest government. We do not need income. We do not need suppressed energy and health care technology to become accessible. We do not need transparency.

We need to be able to borrow more money so that we can continue to fund the existence and lifestyles of the lawless, the dishonest, the rich and the suppressors of technology!"

I threw up watching this.

I didn't exactly tell people not to watch it, did I? But...time is money and some people have high blood pressure as it is. The usual Surgeon General's warning applies.

Damn! I watched it now, and I blame YOU! :)

Where are my meds?

von Pepe: It's hard to say, because it's not apples and oranges. They wouldn't be able to talk about this humongous stimulus were it not for the Paulson precedent. Remember it was Nixon who took us (well, my parents) off gold and imposed wage and price controls. Also, it was the peacenik Democrats who nuked children. So I dunno. I definitely like the financial analysis from conservative pundits more than liberal pundits, I'll give you that.

Sheldon, sorry for the slight abuse of truthiness, but I thought it made for a snappier blog post. :)

Matthew, c'mon man, the 4 minute mark is where it really gets good! If you already watched the first 4 minutes, you have to see it home.

it's not what we don't know that hurts us, it's what we know that isn't so.

man, that really applies to her...

bob, i followed your advise. he said "bull-pucky" 4 more times and then my head actually exploded. thanks a lot.

its sad that she bases her entire argument on the false presumption that the economy is in the crapper because of a mysterious decline in aggregate demand (or as she states it, "people arent spending enough. its a fact. thats just the way things are. its pre-economics 101. blah, blah, blah."). unfortunately, ms. maddow, the current decline in aggregate demand is a symptom of living far beyond our means for far too long. it isnt solved by living farther beyond our means.

but to her credit, she's right about one thing: tax rebates aren't going to do the trick either.

oops, i meant she (maddow), not he.

I'm curious. Where does this "Government spending generates 1.5 dollars in the economy and tax cuts only generate 1.02" or something like that come from? I heard it on a local progressive radio show too. It seems to me if that is true, then if we taxed at 100% and the government controlled all spending (alla soviets) then our economy would grow by 50% every year. That would be pretty awesome huh? Somehow I think its too good to be true. So where does that come from?

So what can "We the People" actually DO about this?

How can a few, really compassionate capitialists come up with a concrete ACTION plan to help FIX the mis-guided/current economic policies in BOTH parties?

...and MOST importantly, relay the message of EFFECTIVE HOPE and TRUE CHANGE by pursuading the American PEOPLE to open their eyes and TAKE ACTION!!!?

Any ideas...rather than refute, theorize and philosophize?

Sincerely,
A willing Patriot.
