New Energy Blog and Why Governments, Not Human Nature, Foster Mass Warfare

Rob Bradley (disclosure: the guy who hired me for IER) has a new energy blog. Some of the big guns who will be posting are still on vacation, but it looks to be great for daily commentary on energy issues.

David Henderson had a great Christmas Eve article discussing the outbreak of peace on the front lines in World War I. Naturally, the commanders nipped it in the bud and made sure their men resumed killing ASAP. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, you should definitely read the article.

Comments:
Speaking about climate change, this news report claims the planet cooled following the destruction of the Aztec and Inca empires and the associated decline of their vast tropical agricultural systems.

So presumably the spread of agriculture, at least in tropical regions, in the past few thousand years has 'warmed' the earth.

This would seem to add yet another factor to the ever growing list of claimed climate drivers. It seems we hear of another one every few weeks. This being said the climate system sounds more and more like a casino. If so, the apparent climate stability over the past few thousand years may represent nothing more than "a gamblers fallacy", the belief that because red came up on the last seven draws that if should come up again.

I feel I must point out the obvious: humans produced governments, therefore governments cannot be separated from human nature.

...of course, no one has ever said human nature couldn't stand to be improved upon.
